Fish Supper, 2017

An essay about pre-evolution theories introduced me to the fascinating story and work of Peter Artedi. He is commonly referred to as the father of ichthyology, the study of fish. In his posthumously published book, he catagorized mermaids as a human species under the name Homo-Marinus. This idea of a much looser catagorization of humans and a closer connection to the animal world inspired the installation. This work is a memento mori in honour of Artedi and a reminder of differing taxonomies that were hidden in the all-encompassing cloud of post-enlightenment scientific views.
